Our History and Mission: From Dream to Sanctuary
In 2017, our family set out on a journey to find a forever home—one with land and space to grow our own food, where the kids could run and play among the trees, and our six dogs could explore freely. After months of searching and feeling as though nothing was quite right, we received a call about a property that had become available again. We dropped everything and went to see it. The moment we arrived, we knew it was perfect: two acres of natural beauty with plenty of trees and foliage. Though the house needed a lot of work, we were ready for the challenge.
Our new home quickly became more than just a place to live—it was the start of something much bigger. It began with Walter, a one-year-old pig found wandering the streets of Miami. When we learned he needed a home, we acted on a whim and adopted him. Walter arrived in August 2018, quickly stealing our hearts with his gentle, curious nature and vibrant personality. He was the first official farm animal at The Dunn Farm and set the tone for what was to come.
Not long after, we welcomed our next residents—a pair of goats in need of a new home. Their previous owner, facing health challenges and caregiving responsibilities, could no longer care for them. Despite our lack of experience with goats, we committed to providing them with love, patience, and a safe place to thrive. Their playful energy added a new layer of joy to our small farm.
The story of Seamus, our second pig, cemented our mission as a sanctuary. He came to us after his blind mother, abandoned in a wildlife area, gave birth to a litter of piglets. Seamus arrived as a tiny five-pound piglet, and Walter instantly adopted him as his little brother. The bond between them was undeniable, and their companionship exemplifies the spirit of The Dunn Farm—a place where every animal is loved, accepted, and given the freedom to be themselves.
Since 2018, The Sanctuary at Dunn Farms has provided a home for over 50 farm animals that have been displaced, neglected, or mistreated. Each one has found safety and care in our little slice of heaven. Our residents, from pigs and goats to other farm animals, roam freely on the property, forming unique friendships and enjoying the best life we can offer.
At The Sanctuary at Dunn Farms, our mission is simple: to create a safe, loving environment for animals in need while fostering education and inclusivity in our community. We are dedicated to providing rescued animals with a chance to live happy, healthy lives and to sharing our journey with others through hands-on learning and meaningful connections.
Here, every animal has a story, every life is valued, and every day is an opportunity to make a difference. Welcome to The Sanctuary at Dunn Farms—where compassion meets community.
